Misfit Gentleman

1813

~ Personal Notes ~

Perhaps Pippin is correct. I may indeed be out of my mind. For me to claim that I am a time traveller is no more believable that a man claiming to be Napoleon or a woman insisting she was Cleopatra in a former life.

I am convinced, though, that she is wrong. I have such vivid memories of my life 200 years ago that I am absolutely convinced that they took place.

For example, I have an incident seared into my memory from December of 1813 when the farms in our area were raided by American soldiers. They set fire to our home. As a 13-year-old, I watched it burn to the ground.

My father, along with many other farmers, joined the British forces defending Canada, later dying in a battle at Queenston Heights. I was left with my mother and brothers and sisters to rebuild the farm.

Those were hard years with much toil, not the stuff of fanciful tales that might be spun by a man out of his mind.
